Activity at the Former General Motors Desert Proving Ground in East Mesa

It has been encouraging as driving down Ellsworth Rd, along the east side of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in east Mesa to see the rolls of earth movers lined up on the east side of the road on the former GM desert proving ground and the beginning of the massive development planned in east mesa.
Aside from Tempe based First Solar braking ground on phase one of a 1.3 million square foot commercial real estate project last year, not much has happened on the property since it’s purchase 6 years ago.
While it will be another year before we begin to see house going up, when completed, the community plans to have a mix of high-end and mid range houses, apartments, retail space and office complexes as well as schools, trails up to the mountains, parks and walkways connecting the neighborhoods

Just to the west of Ellsworth on the north side of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, more construction is underway with the first mile link of the new Arizona 24 freeway that will link San Tan Freeway (loop 202) to the Gateway area.

And speaking of the Gateway area, and commercial real estate projects, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport just unveiled a plan to construct a 1.4 billion dollar passenger terminal that could open in five years and potentially be expanded to 60 gates.
